Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM) formerly known as the Ceylon Hotel School & School of Tourism was established by a Parliament Act in 1966 to train the passionate youth to gain career opportunities in Hospitality & Tourism industry at local and global level. At that time, SLITHM was managed by the Ceylon Tourist Board.
The main objective of the establishment of the institute was the provision of well-skilled and trained manpower for the hospitality industry through middle and top management as well as craft-level courses.
The institute was initially located at Park Street, Colombo in 1980. Later it was relocated to Palm Beach Hotel in Mt.Lavinia (1986) and Nawala (1994). Today the Institute is located at No.78, Galle Road, Colombo 03.
The conversion of Ceylon Hotel School into the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management was carried out under the 2005 Tourism Act. Currently, the Institute conducts a wide range of courses at Craft, Certificate, International, Advanced and Management levels to cater to the rising demand for fully-fledged individuals from top to bottom. In addition, it also conducts short-term training programmes for SMEs and various other institutes.

It is with great pleasure that I express my thoughts with heartfelt gratitude to all who have contributed towards the success of this institution since its inception.
Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM) which was formerly known as the Ceylon Hotel School & School of Tourism was established by a Parliament Act in 1966. It was established with the mission of providing skilled manpower to the hotels and restaurants in the western province. As the Colombo is a tourism hub, it is important to have competitive and productive individuals who are well trained in the industry.
Currently, the branch offers Craft, Certificate, International, Advanced and Management level courses to train employable citizens from bottom to top management level. Therefore, we make sure that well-skilled and trained laborers are produced at the end of every course program.
The present pandemic has made an impact on our institution which was unavoidable. During this period the students, as well as academic and non-academic staff, leaped forward in spite of reservations to play their role.
