SLITHM hosts (PATA) youth symposium May 18, 2017 The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) youth symposium was held on 18th May 2017 at the Auditorium of Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM). The event was supported by the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau. PATA is a nonprofit association founded in 1951 and is acclaimed for taking a leading role in the responsible development of Travel and Tourism sector within the Asia Pacifc Region. The purpose of this symposium was to discuss the next generations role in the future of Travel and Tourism. Alumni, lecturers and over 130 local students and international students participated at this event. Keynote speeches were delivered by leading industry professionals including Mr Sunil Dissanayake – Chairman, SLITHM,Mr Hiran Cooray – Chairman of Jetwing Hotels and Dr Mario Hardy – CEO PATA. The PATA programme development was done under the guidance of Dr Chris Bottrill, Chairman of the PATA HumanCapital Development (HCD)Committee and Dean, Faculty of Community Studies at Capilano University. Dr Bottril was grateful to SLITHM and Si Lanka Convention Bureau for hosting and supporting the event. Highly informative discussions were held between students of SLITHM and 6 other universities together with large number of professionals and delegates representing PATA. Topics such as Value of Caring for the Environment and their communities, embracing technology, providing healthy and organic foods, achieving gender equality and the importance embracing multiculturalism in the Tourism Industry were discussed.
