Library


The SLITHM Library is a source of information. It plays a vital role in catering to the information and educational needs of both course participants and professional staff of SLITHM and tourism sector.

The fully-fledged Library is well stocked with over 10,000 Books, over 1000 tourism reports and selected periodicals.

Among the library's special collections are the world tourism Organization (WTO) publication, Training Manuals, Company Annual Reports, Periodicals Holdings, tourism statistics, students project reports and the valuable Sri Lanka Collection.

Library will be open week days during ordinary working hours (8.30 am. to 4.10 pm.)

Mission

To provide a comprehensive and user focused resources with quality library services in support of teaching, learning and research needs of the Tourism community, through developing collections, providing relevant infrastructure facilities and user guidance to encourage teaching learning and research in an intellectually stimulating information environment.

Goals :

■ To maintain and preserve the official legal Deposit Collection and other tourism information resource which plays a prominent role in the tourism of the country.

■ To maintain a collection of current and up to date information resources in support of teaching, learning and research needs of the SLITHM.

■ To offer information skills development initiatives to support with the objective of improving relevance and quality in lectures & student of SLITHM.

■ To collaborate with the SLITHM, library and academics community partners to enrich the research and learning environment.

■ To provide appropriate physical and technology - based library infrastructure facilities to support teaching, learning and research.

Library standards

Accession register should be maintained for the accessing, A proper filling system should be maintained . Library will adopt appropriate library management systematic programme. Library should adopt an improved and efficient classification system (DDC 22 edition) and Books should be cataloged according to the 2nd edition of AACR (ii).

Services provided by the SLITHM Library include inquiry, reference & Lending services, library information services using the library database, inter-library loan facility, photocopying facility, journal contents page service and bibliographical assistance to the professional staff and executive staff of SLITHM and tourism sector , students and participants of courses.

The Library is available for course participants for reference purposes. Participants in guide courses and certificate courses are allowed the facility of reference books on without payment of a refundable deposit.
